The Bluewater Exhibition

I'm excited to share another peek behind the scenes this week, focusing on the lead-up to the exhibition at Bluewater.

Being confirmed as an artist for the Spring Collection of the Under the Rainbow Exhibition was a thrill. This event is dedicated to showcasing the diverse artwork of professional, amateur, and emerging artists. Their mission is to create an inclusive and uplifting experience for visitors while offering artists the chance to exhibit their work in accessible locations. The range of art on display includes drawings, paintings, sculptures, and photographs. Plus, entry is free, and all pieces are available for purchase. It's no wonder they've earned the title of Winner of the Best Art Gallery in Kent.

But getting accepted was just the beginning, then came the hard work. I had to carefully select which images to feature in my designated area, as well as which ones to have as reserves. Additionally, I had to decide on a set of images to be displayed as simply mounted pieces. Then came the task of ordering the images, mounts, and frames.

Unfortunately, some frames arrived damaged during transit, leading to the hassle of arranging replacements. It took over two days to meticulously mount and frame everything. The images designated for simple mounting needed to be protected in clear sleeves and priced accordingly. Each piece had to be labeled according to the gallery's specifications.

As the exhibition's opening day approached, the pressure mounted. A few days prior, I transported everything to the gallery with the help of my trusty assistant. Together, we painstakingly arranged nine images on the wall, alongside leaflets, cards, and a brief bio. The remaining pieces were set aside as reserves.

The days leading up to the opening were a flurry of behind-the-scenes activity as the hosts added the finishing touches. Finally, Saturday arrived, and it was time for the preview meet-the-artists cocktail party. Dressed to the nines, I entered tout he venue to the welcoming sight of a little blubbly. The room was transformed, and the art on display was truly breathtaking. Over 200 guests were present that night.

Even more thrilling was the news that I made a sale on the first day. What an incredible feeling! I hope the first of many. However, don’t take my word for it. Go and check it you for yourselves.
